Our Mission

Neffs UCC Preschool provides a safe, loving, and healthy learning environment.  Each child can discover, learn, and grow in an individual way.  The school provides an educational atmosphere where each child can develop socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and intellectually in preparation for Kindergarten.
This mission guides every aspect of our play-based program and how we support children ages 3–5.

All About Neffs UCC Preschool

For over 30 years, Neffs UCC Preschool has provided a nurturing, play-based learning environment for children ages 3 to 5. Families often notice that terms like preschool and Pre-K are used differently from school to school in Pennsylvania. Below, we share how these terms are used and how our programs are thoughtfully designed to support kindergarten readiness.

Understanding Preschool & Pre-K in Pennsylvania

What is the difference between Preschool and Pre-K? In Pennsylvania, the terms preschool and Pre-K are often used interchangeably and generally refer to early childhood programs serving children ages 3–5. There is no single statewide definition that separates these terms by age or skill level.

Why do schools use different class names? Because Pennsylvania does not require specific classroom titles, schools choose names that best reflect their program structure, schedule, and developmental focus. Class names may vary between schools, but they do not indicate a different type of license or level.

Does the class name affect kindergarten readiness? No. What matters most is the quality of the program and how well it supports a child’s overall development. All of our classes are designed to nurture the whole child and support readiness for kindergarten in developmentally appropriate ways.

How do I know which class is right for my child? We are happy to help guide families in selecting the best classroom based on a child’s age, development, and readiness. Please contact us with any questions—we’re glad to help!
